nucleus contain dna while nucleolus contain rna

The majority of human cells have a single nucleus although there are several cell types that have multiple nuclei e g. Dna is used as a template for mrna synthesis in the nucleus by rna polymerase transcription see gene expression and transcription very variable structure and length because the nucleotide sequence of mrna depends on the nucleotide sequence of the corresponding dna segment. The nucleus often referred to as the brain of the cell is the largest and most prominent organelle in the cell.

The difference between dna and rna is the components they contain.

Nucleus contain dna while nucleolus contain rna. It differs from dna chemically in two respects. Dna has thymine and rna does not. The function of the nucleus is to store a cell s hereditary material or dna which helps with and controls a cell s growth function and reproduction. The nucleus also produces the necessary precursors for protein synthesis the dna housed within the cell nucleus contains the information necessary for the creation of the majority of the proteins needed to keep a cell functional.

The nucleolus is the largest of the discrete densely stained membraneless structures known as nuclear bodies found in the nucleus. On the contrary rna involves ribose sugar with one extra oxygen atom. 2 although like dna rna contains the bases adenine a guanine and cytosine c it contains the base uracil u instead of the thymine t in dna. The cell nucleus is the most noticeable organelle within the eukaryotic cell and perhaps the most important and defining feature of the eukaryotic cells most of the genetic material dna is contained in the nucleus while a small amount of it is found in mitochondria.

The main roles of the nucleolus are to synthesize rrna and assemble ribosomes the structural cohesion of the nucleolus depends. As previously discussed prokaryotic cells lack an organized nucleus while eukaryotic cells contain membrane bound nuclei and organelles that house the cell s dna and direct the synthesis of ribosomes and proteins. It forms around tandem repeats of rdna dna coding for ribosomal rna rrna. 1 the nucleotides in rna are ribonucleotides that is they contain the sugar ribose hence the name ribonucleic acid rather than deoxyribose.

In fact it is consists of the nucleobase uracil. The nucleus is an organelle found in eukaryotic cells and functions as the holder of a cell s blueprint. The chemical structure of rna is very similar to that of dna but differs in three primary ways. The nucleolus produces ribosomal rna while chromatin is a combination of dna protein and rna.

However a single rna molecule can by complementary base pairing form intrastrand double helixes as in trna. Other organelles found in a plant cell outside the nucleus are the vacuole golgi apparatus cytoplasm mitochondria smooth endoplasmic reticulum and free ribosomes. Unlike double stranded dna rna is a single stranded molecule in many of its biological roles and consists of much shorter chains of nucleotides. One of the main differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells is the nucleus.
